North Carolina Updates W-2 and 1099 Filing Specifcatoins

October 9, 2017 Gerry Nelligan

North Carolina's Department of Revenue recently updated their reporting requirements for filing W-2 and 1099 information. Per an announcement on the eNC3 website, the CD ROM specifications previously used for W-2 and 1099 reporting (DP-43 and DP-40, respectively) are no longer no longer valid.  Instead, electronic filers must use the eNC3 specifications listed on the eNC3 Web File Upload page. These file format specifications will be required for electronic filing beginning on January 1, 2018: testing for these specifications will be available by December 2017.

Specifications are available for Forms W-2, W-2C, required 1099s, 1042-S, NC-3 (North Carolina Annual Withholding Reconciliation), and NC-3X (North Carolina Amended Annual Withholding Reconciliation).

Please note that W-2 and 1099 reporting must be submitted electronically unless filers apply for a waiver.
